Meet Honey Bean - The Therapy Cat.
Honey is currently not able to come to the office due to ongoing minor but disruptive health issues. We hope she will return soon!
I often bring my sweet cat, Honey Bean, with me to my office. Honey is one of the best therapists I know. She is full of unconditional love and is known for crawling into my clients laps hoping for pets and snuggles. She is very intuitive and often knows when someone is in need of a little extra comfort and care. Honey also exudes an infectious sense of self acceptance, with all of her many personality quirks, her body, and her desire to be loved. Its hard to not feel a little bit calmer and kinder when you’re in her presence.
About Animal Assisted Therapy.
It has long been known that spending time with animals warms the heart, yet research in neuroscience is just starting to reveal the impact that animals can have on our brain and wellbeing. Spending time with animals has been shown to release powerful neurotransmitters including oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin. These are the chemicals that help us feel calm, happy, and connected and are the very things that antidepressant medications target. In essence, spending time with an animal balances and soothes our brain chemistry and stress response. Studies on animal assisted therapy have shown that incorporating animals into counseling can further reduce anxiety, decrease depression, and increase our ability to care for ourselves.
